Stop spending so much time in the @*#($)(@*#$ computer room!!!!
Ann

At great risk to life and limb, I somehow found time to overhaul the website. Mind you, being up most of the night does lend itself to some deep thinking...

Er, never mind the broken links. I'll get to them. Eventually :)

You're such a night owl!
Ann

Kiera is bright and perky, which is good, but its never at convenient hours... always at night, always when we need our sleep... I'm grounding her six years off the bat just for the past two weeks of insomnia.

Oh! Before I forget... Ann and I got flowers from my office! Its such a beautiful bouquet - thanks everyone, we really appreciated it.

Is it safe for you to be in accounting right now?
Ann

Lack of sleep is our No.1 occupational hazard.

I am sure this is mentioned in parenting guides, but they need to use bigger print so that we're better warned. Having said that, I am pleasantly shocked by how well I function on 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night.

Now I also know why babies are so cute - its so you don't kill them when they're waking you for the fifth time at 3:30 AM!

Leaving this Saturday PM for Ann's family reunion in Edmonton - I'll probably not update the kikiBlog while I'm there, but there'll be plenty of pix when I'm back.

I like her freaky cool hair.
Dr. Maunsell

One week check-up with the doctor, and all's well. Kiki is back to her body weight + an ounce, so the breastfeeding goes well.

I got a thrill down my spine when the receptionist called out Kiera's name ... "That's my girl! That's my girl!" I'll get used to it eventually, but I'll enjoy every bit of it while it lasts :)

KiKi's umbilical cord came off last night - which freaked me out until I realized what it was!

"OMG! SOMETHING FELL OFF HER!" <pause> "Oh never mind. Hey, an innie!"

Happy Birthday to the best Mom in the world - mine! I love you lots Mommy. I hope I can be half the parent that you have been to us. Birthday dinner with Mom last night was Kiera's first Great Trek. It was a modest start - three minutes by car. Getting her dressed and strapping her into the car seat took about 20!

Once she got there, Kiera kept the birthday girl busy - and my 4-month old niece helped :)

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP!
Kiki

Its not quite as sexy as Jennifer Love Hewitt calling her assets 'Thelma' and 'Louise', but Le Café Droit and Chez Gauche works for us.

Since we're chatting about food, here's a great breakfast that's tasty and goes down easy. Its Jamie Oliver's 'Pukkola':

Four parts quick cooking oats to one part bran, soaked in milk overnight (in the fridge). To eat, add a bit more milk to loosen it up, and top with chopped apple, cinnamon and sugar. Another favourite is brown sugar, maple syrup and a handful of chopped nuts.

Very comforting after a whole night up.

Good fart!
Ann

Its not something you say in polite company, but its a cheer around these parts. Baby farts are good! They settle her down, she stops crying, we're happy... yup, its a good thing.

Breastfeeding at 3 AM? Try a bit of music to sooth the inner savage within. Harry Connick Jr. is stalwart, and Josh Groban has serenaded Ann and Kiera through some very late night feeds.

It just makes it that much more civilized.

Nurse to Ann
Napa? Or Savoy? Red? Green? Does the colour matter?
CK, clarifying the nurse's comment

The public health nurse came by for Kiera's checkup, and all the numbers were in the green - go Team KiKi!

Ann's parents also headed home to Edmonton yesterday afternoon. Seems like they only just got here, and we were sad to see them go. My Mom came over though, stayed till midnight, and come by early today to lend a hand.

Moms are awesome! And yes, that includes our newest Mom Annie :)

You're so sweet when you're not crying!
Ann

Its been an interesting first couple of days home - trying to interpret and cope with Kiera's every bawl, howl and jet-engine scream.

She has her very own Decepticon name: JETSCREAM!

Anyone else notice all the 80's toys coming back? The Transformers never went away, but the shelves are once again stocked with Strawberry Shortcake and Cabbage Patch Kids.

I can't wait till Kiera's old enough so I can get all these cool toys for her...

She has your nose!
Ann

Kiera Kim Jung-Un Ren-Ai Summersky Lee was born on the most beautiful Sunday in my life.

She came into the world kicking and screaming at 8 lb 1 oz, 19 in long, after 20 hours of labour. Both Mom and daughter are doing beautifully. How cool is that? I'm a DAD!

Big thanks to Dr. Maunsell and Dr. Turner, and to all the nurses at RCH for being so good at what they do.

Happy Birthday!
